Masai food

December 21, 2009

La Chica is pleased that she doesn’t have access to bathroom scales, as she’s afraid the Masai diet is playing havoc with her curves and adding a few spares tyres in the process!  Breakfast is usually chai, a milky tea that contains goat or cows milk, tea and lots of sugar.  Sometimes deep fried donuts without the holes are purchased from Longido town as a special treat.  Lunch is usually a huge plate of rice with a serving of green spinach or red kidney beans on the side.  Dinner is the same as lunch.  Throughout the day chai is offered in the same way that the English will take tea, sometimes served with chapati.  On Wednesdays in Longido it’s BBQ day.  Some of the men will slaughter a goat or sheep and BBQ the meat for sale – $6 for a leg of lamb!
